Being Cognizant: Bye-bye, Hair!

In a Tizzy Avatar

A series about the ways I work towards being cognizant through decisions that make me more mentally engaged with various facets of my day-to-day life.

Cognizance (noun): Awareness, realization, notice, knowledge, perception.

It’s been awhile since I wrote something for this “series,” and I am tickled by my intro – “tickled” in both the fun and torturous ways. So wordy.

Anyways, I got rid of most of my hair!

This definitely falls into one of the ways I try to be more cognizant because I figure that if I’m going to chop off a large amount of hair it should go to good use! I donated mine to Wigs for Kids.

The actual cut was made by Hair by Summer at Second Nature Beauty Collective, who did an amazing job cleaning up my chopped locks!

Summer and I post-chop!

I’m a sucker for thrifted and recycled items, so I was wooed by Second Nature’s decor almost entirely consisting of secondhand items, furthering their “second nature” theme!

I know that hair can hold a lot of meaning and sense of identity for people. I’ve been there; I still am to some extent.

However, I feel FREED by this move and am so glad that after two years of letting my hair grow following my previous hair donation that I opted to go extra-short this time.

If you have been thinking about it for yourself, I would definitely encourage you to do so and do it more mindfully by donating your hair if you can! There are some organizations that can even make use of dyed/bleached hair, so the options for donation are out there while the excuses are not! Wigs for Kids makes no profit from their donations, and I think that this is the best way to donate.

I repeat: Check out Summer at Second Nature Beauty Collective if you are in the Lower Mainland/Vancouver area and want to get a trim, colour, or whole new ‘do!

Want some fun shoes to go with your new hair? Yes. I think you just might. Check out SOULiers Studio!
