Pumpkin Challenge 2016: Days 21-25

In a Tizzy Avatar

Since 2011, every October I embark on a month-long journey to consume something with pumpkin in it, in some form, every day.

Day 21: Pumpkin Macaron, Thomas Haas

Out for a lovely, gray-day meeting with K.L., I found myself with an unexpected pumpkin item at Thomas Haas. Unexpected, because I had ordered an apple pie macaron, and was served pumpkin, instead!

It had what looked to be pumpkin purée on the inside of its creamy filling, and was accompanied by a soy chai latte and a raspberry macaron. A delicious meeting, indeed!

Day 22: Pumpkin Spice Latte Cake, Breka Bakery

Swallowing the unjustifiable frustration from my previous visit, I went with company this time to Breka to retrieve a pumpkin item.

We locked our sights on the Pumpkin Spice Latte Cake, and grabbed the treat and went on our way.

It was surprisingly accurate on the “latte” component of its name – it was kind of like what I recall tiramisu cakes being like, with their coffee flavour and sweet layers. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the neighbourhood and like that sort of thing!

Day 23: Pumpkin Cheesecake, Neverland Tea Salon

My plan had not been to have my pumpkin so early in the day, but here I was at high tea for breakfast, and there, on the menu, was pumpkin cheesecake. For breakfast.

Among many other delicious menu items, this little slice of cake was at the tail-end of my meal and nearly missed the mark because of just how many pots of tea and small sandwiches I had consumed leading up to it. However, it was delicious, and I would recommend you snagging it while it is in season!

Day 24: Pumpkin Pecan Muffin, Made by Grandma

Thanks again to my grandma for keeping my Pumpkin Challenge exciting and sprinkled with homemade goodies! These were some healthy and texture-filled muffins that, with a mug of tea, made a few grey mornings much more pleasant.

Day 25: Vegan Pumpkin Pie, Aphrodite’s Organice Café and Pie Shop

It seemed wrong to go through an entire Pumpkin Challenge without indulging in an Aphrodite’s pumpkin pie. So I didn’t.

At first, one may think that these pie slices seem a bit expensive (particularly for the vegan/gluten-free flavours), but one will almost certainly find it worthwhile when they take a bite. This is especially true if you have it in-house and served with ice cream (dairy-free, too!), gelato, and heart-shaped cinnamon designs on the side of your plate.
