    24 Days of Tea: 7 – 12

Last year, my mom and I shared DAVIDsTEA’s 24 Days of Tea journey together. This year, my mom is too far away to share the same tin each day with me, so I had to go it alone this time around!

    Day 7: Organic Saigon Chai
    Black tea

This chai was full of spicy goodness and certainly affirmed my belief that it is hard to go wrong with chai. I like to sweeten and milk my chais up (I am known to like my chai lattes quite a bit), and this one with a bit of sweetness kept its spices and flavours and they all blended together with a bit of (cashew) milky goodness.

    Day 1: Let It Snow
    Green tea

Starting off the tea advent calendar was this green tea, sweetened by the dried fruit bits and white chocolate mixed into its leaves. The add-ins cut the bitterness of the green tea and made for a smooth drink! The white chocolate ingredients were a bit hard on the sensitive stomach but delicious, nonetheless.

    Day 26: Pumpkin Quesadilla, HappyHealthyLife

    DSC_0729

This was one of my favourite new things that I tried for this year’s challenge.

I think I’ll be returning to Happy Healthy Life for more recipes in the future because this one was really unique and tasted great! Pumpkin, maple syrup, vegan (Daiya) mozzarella cheese, and I threw in some veggie chick’n for protein (these tortillas were also stacked with protein!). I highly recommend this for the various potential modifications and health benefits you can get from a twist on the traditional quesadilla!

Day 21: Pumpkin Spice Chai, Starbucks

You can still try this seasonal treat! While it may scream “autumn,” this can add some visual and physical warmth throughout the winter as well. I opted for a half-sweet, almond-milk version and enjoyed the combined pumpkin and chai flavours!

Day 22: Pumpkin Pasta Sauce, H.H.

Thank-you, H.H., for this pumpkin pasta sauce recipe! I don’t often take the time to make things on the stove that take longer than 5 minutes to cook… This was worth it! I added spinach for some greens and it worked out quite deliciously.

    Day 16: Pumpkin Cheerios, Cheerios

    DSC_0616

My eyes LIT up when I saw these at the grocery store! They are made with real pumpkin and tasted like it, too! They definitely made a simple breakfast much spicier.

If you can find these in your grocery store, I would definitely recommend grabbing them! Before they’re gone.

Day 11: Pumpkin Praline Dream Cone, Eva’s Original Chimney

    DSC_0610

We took a wander down to a new spot for me in the city: Eva’s Original Chimney! This establishment has an abundance of exciting flavours, including vegan ones! While this one was not veganized, it was delicious (if not stomach-ache inducing). Pieces of pumpkin pie cheesecake on white ganache soft serve with praline bits throughout. Definitely worth the trip! I’ll be going back for their vegan options.

    Day 6: Pumpkin Chocolate, Lindor

    DSC_0473

Arriving late off a flight, I was not sure what my pumpkin item would turn out to be, but I was pleasantly surprised to be presented with pumpkin chocolate spheres upon my arrival! I didn’t find the pumpkin spice flavour to be very prominent in the chocolate, but the mild flavour paired well with it nonetheless.

  • Pumpkin Challenge 2017: Welcome!

    Pumpkin Challenge 2017: Welcome!

Friends, it is one of the greatest times of the year: The Pumpkin Challenge.

This is my 7th annual challenge where I take on each day of October and consume something containing pumpkin in some way. It could be in the form of the gourd’s seeds, spices in a syrup, or pureed goodness in baking. Whatever its shape, I will consume it if it is a day in the month of October.

You may have noticed that we are almost halfway through the month – fret not, for I have been consuming every day despite my neglected documentation of it on the blog. My Instagram has been covering everything, and my photography page and account will also be updated soon.

What started as a challenge fueled by store-bought goods has turned into a baking adventure and mission to explore local cafes, bakeries, and restaurants – especially if they’re serving up vegan options!

Favourites across time have included pumpkin croquette from the beloved Sun Sushi in Vancouver, Nature’s Path pumpkin spice waffles and granola, and even some pumpkin green smoothies (yes, there is more than one recipe for this online).

Now that I have moved to a new city, this month feels extra-important as it is the first time I’ve done it away from home and gives me a small challenge to overcome every day and some structure to my weeks as I adjust – I either need to bake or create something at home or I need to go discover some new establishment that is serving up pumpkin goodness to match the season. It can be stressful ensuring that I find something every day when I’m busy or sick or just unmotivated, but it has brought some familiarity and comfort, as well as some unfamiliarity that is necessary to make myself feel like I have a place here.

With all of that – let’s begin!
